MORGANTOWN — Two documents, one mandatory and the other a possibility for future consideration, were a part of the most recent Monongalia County Commission session.

The first, presented by Sheriff Perry Palmer, was the county’s Law Enforcement Mutual Assistance Agreement.

MECCA 911 Director Jimmy Smith said mutual aid agreements document jurisdictional issues that ensure, in the event one or more agencies need to assist another, it is clear what authority the assisting agencies have, who is in charge and that all agencies are covered in terms of liability.

Speaking of law enforcement and emergency management, Commission President Ed Hawkins raised the possibility of creating a comprehensive guide for citizens that would outline what to do, where to go and who to contact in various emergency situations.

Smith said that Monongalia County’s emergency preparedness information follows the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) guidelines and is always available at ready.gov.
