MORGANTOWN — The Monongalia County Commission made quick work of a light agenda on Jan. 10.

Among the agenda items was a letter from the Hazel Ruby McQuain Charitable Trust explaining that the county’s $600,000 grant request for a new Camp Muffly pool was denied.

This was the second year the county applied for the money. Last year, the trust provided $25,000, which the commission spent on planning and designing a replacement for the 64-year-old pool.

Commissioner Ed Hawkins said the county planned to continue pursuing grant funds for the project and would reapply to the trust at the next available opportunity.

Camp Muffly, at 1477 4-H Camp Road, is one of three county-owned parks and home to the county’s popular 4-H program.

In other county news, the commission approved a requisition request for a University Town Centre TIF district subaccount in the amount of $749,067.07.

Lastly, County Clerk Carye Blaney reminded the commission that candidate filings began Monday and will run through Jan. 27, which is a Saturday.
