CHARLESTON — The House Finance Committee took up and passed its own version of the governor’s tax and revenue bill, HB 107, on May 18 and sent it to the full House.

The House also passed a version of the governor’s state employee furlough bill, HB 106, and sent it to the Senate.

HB 107 had its first reading on the floor shortly after Finance OK’d it. Majority leader Daryl Cowles, R-Morgan, said that while it’s not totally certain, they hope to suspend the rules during this morning’s floor session, pass it and send it to the Senate.

Senate President Mitch Carmichael, R-Jackson, said if the bill passes and, as they hope, the governor sends up a budget bill, the full Senate could return to town May 22 to begin work toward a compromise revenue bill.
