KINGWOOD — A continuance was granted Feb. 13 in a man’s attempt to get a new trial on a 1990 Preston County murder conviction.

The motion was filed by Jeremy Cooper, attorney for Richard Knotts. Knotts, 57, is serving life without parole for the murder of Robert Barlow Jr. He is appealing his conviction based on DNA evidence.

“The court grants the request,” Preston Judge Lawrance Miller Jr. said about the motion to continue. “This is a 2007 [appeals] case. It needs to be resolved.”
