MORGANTOWN — Levy rates and paving contracts were ironed out on April 18 as Morgantown City Council met in regular session for the last time prior to next week’s municipal election.

The city’s levy rates will remain unchanged in the 2017 fiscal year, which begins with the new council, on July 1. Class II, or owner occupied, property will be taxed 25 cents for every $100 of assessed value while Class IV, or rental, property will be taxed 50 cents on each $100.

In other city news, council unanimously approved three bids worth just over $2 million for the upcoming paving season, including bids from two contractors who will split the city into “north” and “south” paving projects.

Greer Industries was the lowest of two bidders to provide the hot laid bituminous asphaltic cement for all the paving at a cost of $910,411.70.

The south paving project went to Parotta Paving for a total of $749,892.82.

The north side paving project went to Anderson Excavating who had the low bid of $342,418.83.
